Revitalized Medvedev Claims Maiden Title in Nearly 30 Months

19 of Medvedev's twenty-one titles have been earned on hard courts

A resurgent Medvedev claimed his maiden title for 882 days with a win over Corentin Moutet in the competition final.

The athlete, a former top-ranked player, has experienced a torrid year, managing just one win at the Grand Slams and suffering a meltdown at the American major.

Medvedev's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and struggles with his serving in particular - caused him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-term trainer Cervara.

Currently collaborating with Johansson and his other coach, he has gradually improved in the recent weeks - culminating in a closely contested three-set victory over challenger Moutet.

It is his initial trophy following the Italian tournament and first on a hard surface after that period of the previous year.

Success also indicates Medvedev has won twenty-one championships at 21 different events.

"It's the first time I have attended a event with my both daughters together, so to win a trophy is particularly special," commented ranked player Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter her name, because the maiden victory I achieved when my older daughter my daughter was born was for her."

The tennis star, the former major winner, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving approach and frequent reactions on the tennis court had prompted commentators to question if his skill to perform at the elite level was concluded.

Yet the 29-year-old has altered his approach in the past month, attempting to approach the net and compete aggressively, reinforced by an enhanced serving game.

Medvedev fought back from a break down in the initial set against the difficult Frenchman, winning four of the final five games to take the lead.

The pair swapped service breaks in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden tour victory, took control to create a final set.

He saved 4 early opportunities in a tight third set before Medvedev won the break to fifteen to secure the win.

Appropriately, the winner clinched victory with a shot at the net, with Moutet incapable to manage a return after two hours and 38 minutes.
